SOLUTION TO PUZZLE #3

Note:  A move starts when a loco begins moving, with or without cars attached. The move ends when the loco stops.

Here is the position at the start. Green boxcar and pink-and-white reefer on two legs of the wye. The objective is to exchange their positions.
Remember: Upper left spur holds only one car, and loco won't fit; lower left spur holds two cars or loco and one car. Branch line enters from upper right.

Moves 1 and 2.  Loco pulls forward into lower spur, then backs onto boxcar.

Move 3. Loco pulls boxcar forward into spur.

Move 4. Loco backs boxcar into upper spur.

Moves 5 and 6. Loco pulls forward to lower spur, then backs into wye leg.

Move 7.  After clearing top switch, loco moves forward onto reefer.

Moves 8 and 9.  Loco pushes reefer onto boxcar in spur, then backs to branch line.
