Breaking News
Hagley Scout Exhibition
Warley

Just two weeks ago, the Hagley Ramblers Scout Group, in Worcestershire, England, held its very first model railway benefit exhibition. It was a smashing success! One aspect of the show was the fact that nearly all the layouts on display had been featured in this Scrapbook. Shown above is the exhibition's organizer, Chris Gilbert (left) and his son, Thomas, with Chris's layout Old Goldern Black Industries (featured in Scrapbook #57a).

One layout which was built too late to make it into these pages was Warley (right) by George Hims, from Birmingham, England. This little Gn15 layout was so new the paint was still wet! Both these photos were taken by Nick Palette, and there are lots more on the Web here. Needless to say the organizers have already decided to make it an annual affair, to be continued next year. Congratulations to everyone involved!

F L A S H !  Be sure to check out these pages at mid-month, about the 15th of November, to see the results of the Greenwich & District Narrow Gauge Railway Society members' pizza layout competition! Carl Arendt is the judge, and the results will be announced here in a couple weeks. The layouts were all on display at ExpoNG, the large English narrow-gauge train show, held in Kent on 27 October.

Trogen Station layout

NEW PUBLICATION.  A frequent contributor to these pages, Herbert Fackeldey, from Aachen, Germany, is the Editor of an attractive, new German-language magazine, Schmale Spuren (Narrow Tracks). The current issue (#2) features a good plan for a micro layout based on Trogen, a compact metre-gauge terminus in northeastern Switzerland. The plan (at right) measures 120x30cm (4x1ft) including fiddle yard and is virtually a duplicate of the actual station trackage. Notice that the fiddle sector plate is pivoted off-center — a good trick to use in tight-space situations like this. Thanks to Herbert for providing a copy of his plan. For more information, see the publication's website (or buy a copy!).

MILESTONE.  A quiet celebration was held in the offices of this website on 20 October 2007, when our digital counter ticked over at our one-millionth visitor (since April 2004, when we moved to our present server). Thanks for coming in, and stay tuned — the best is yet to come!
